Hairstreaks
Published by Christy under on 1:43 PMNo, I'm not talking highlights from a box at the beauty supply store, I'm thinking more along the lines of butterflies in the family of Lycaenidae. Hairstreaks are one of several small butterflies in my area that show up this time of year. There are several different 'flies' with the hairstreak name sake that look similar, but are in fact not the same.
At any rate, I came across this little beauty (a Banded Hairstreak [Satyrium calanus] I believe) yesterday and managed a few shots of him. I quite enjoyed myself and I don't think he minded all that much either.

Wow! What a great shot! And your blog makes me miss the US countryside. I don't miss "living in" Louisiana, but the critters and the wide-open spaces of the south and the southeast where I spent time as a boy and a young Marine...
