The hummingbirds have arrived!

The first hummer I've seen this year arrived yesterday evening! It was a beautiful male ruby throated hummingbird (the only kind you'll see east of the Mississippi) and he made two visits to the feeder outside my window. Unfortunately I was on the wrong side of it so my photos didn't turn out so well, but that's ok, he or another will be back I'm sure.
The park ranger at Riverbend Park, about 40 minutes west of here, said that he's banded several newcomers and has also seen many birds return that he's banded in the past. I'm looking forward to seeing more myself. They are just the cutest little birds!

In other birding news: A couple of field sparrows showed up to pick through what was left of the millet in the late evening. I really enjoy these little birds. At first only one would show up and then he or she began bringing it's mate, I assume. They're so shy it's hard to get a good photo without scaring them off.

Oh! I do love hummingbirds. When they arrive here I know that summer is near!! I have lots of those sparrows too. Nice shots.
