Window Birds

Published by Christy under on 9:18 AM

Well, not much doing yesterday. Took a few shots of some American goldfinches that decided to hang out on my window feeders. Got a contemplative little tufted titmouse as well.

It's been rather warm the last few days. The weather has been doing wacky stuff for it to be the middle of winter. We've gone from average daily highs in the upper 20's to highs in the 60's. Which don't get me wrong, I like the warmer weather (I am in the south after all), I've just been hoping for a little taste of snow or something. We could really use some more precipitation.

On a lighter note: This is half of a duo of Carolina Chickadees I've labeled as 'Double' and 'Trouble'. Don't let the meek tiny exterior fool you. These two are cheeky little boogers. I think they throw down more sunflower seeds than they eat. It's really a trip to watch them pull one seed out at a time until they find one that 'fits'. Maybe I should rename them 'Goldi' and 'Locks'. (This particular bird happens to be 'Double' by the way.)

Christy we just lost 17" of snow due to the warm temps and everything looks so drab. I've yet to get a shot of a red cardinal against the snow but hope to before winter is over. These shots are really nice, did you take them through the window? The jays are just as bad as the chickadees when it comes to throwing seeds and it makes me grateful for the ground feeders like the doves.

I don't see many jays bumming off the feeders until summer or so. The European Starlings have arrived in full force though, so I guess the little birds will have to contend with them for the suet and nesting space. Ack. I like to look at them and listen to their neat calls, but they sure are intrusive birds.

And yep, took 'em through the window. Wish I had a DSLR with a telephoto so I could get more 'natural' shots though. :)

hmmmmmmmmmm....I just enlarged your shots and think you're doing extremely well with the p&s so be careful what you wish for. I have both and for field trips I much prefer the ease and versatility of the p&s.

If only there was such thing as an honest to goodness telephoto for a point and shoot. I so enjoy manual focus...really gets cleaner shots of my bugs...

Thanks for your comments...my p&s is only about 2 feet from the birds, so it works to my advantage at the window. OUt in the field, not so much. :)
