What a start to the day!

WOW! What an amazing start to the day I had! When I raised my shade this morning and looked out in the front yard, I noticed a lot of birds on the ground and in the pear tree...looked a little closer and saw that they were Cedar Waxwings! Yahooooooooo! Cedar Waxwings have been eluding me for years, and they LIVE in my part of the state too! I know most 'birders' would probably snub their noses at my excitement over a waxwing, but lemme tell ya, this is too cool for me!

I managed some photos, but they aren't the greatest with my point and shoot camera. But hey, at least I have a record of this neato event!

Another thing that made all of this even more cool is that the flock of waxwings were hanging out with a flock of robins, a small flock of eastern bluebirds, and even a few starlings. They all moved as one flock from tree to tree and tree to ground. How cool is that? I think they were all hanging out looking for grubs or something. The waxwings also seemed to be having a go at some of the buds on the pear tree.

So the moral of the story is: EXPECT SOMETHING NEW EVERYDAY!

Christy I've seen Waxwings in my area but never in my yard and I'm surprised because I've got lots of bushes with berries on them. I can imagine what a thrill this must have been for you and especially to see them fly in unison with other birds. Neat catch!

What a wonderful thing to see so close by in the morning. I am waiting for the Waxings to arrive to eat the berries as they do every year.
