It's 'Wren'-derful!

Okay, so the title leaves something to be desired, but I'm excited none-the-less. It seems that a Carolina wren decided to build her nest in my barn this year, in a rather unorthodox location at that. I suppose that really shouldn't surprise me that much seeing as how they used a hanging basket on the porch last year, but at least it was out of 'cats reach' for the most part. This years nest is at eye level for me and, while well protected from the weather, it leaves something to be desired when it comes to feline access. But mother does know best, so alas, I will keep my opinions to myself and let momma wren do her thing. Though I am sure she would fuss me up one side and down the other if I did have a mind to tell her what I think! (Carolina wrens are especially fond of making noise and lots of it! They will fuss and yell until they're satisfied the threat is gone.)

I've been trying to keep an occasional eye out for babies without stressing mom out too much. If I get too close she flies outta there like a bullet and all I can do is hope I've ducked fast enough! While making my rounds at the barn today I peeked in and low and behold there were brand new babies!!! Wee iddy biddy little things! So precious! I tried to snap a few photos but didn't mess around too much as I didn't wanna tire the wee ones out before momma got back with dinner.

Watching birds grow is really a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to seeing these babies fledge.

Next up: 'Summer's Dog Day...Cicadas?'
