Walk softly and crouch low, Grasshoppa...

Published by Christy under on 7:13 PM

Lans sakes! I got some new toys for my camera yesterday and today I'm putting them through their paces, err maybe that should be they're putting me through mine! Crawling around on the ground chasing bugs is hard work!

I've been practicing on one of my favorite insects, the lowly grasshopper. I think they're just so cool. What an under-rated bug! Did you know that when this particular hopper is captured it will actually throw up?! Ewwwww! I wouldn't wanna eat it after that, good thing for the hopper...and me!

The photos I've posted are of what I believe to be an Orange-winged Grasshopper, part of the Band-winged family of hoppers. The 'rainbow' inner 'thigh' is supposed to be indicative of the orange-wings.

Please forgive the slightly out of focus shots and the poor dof, I'm still getting used to the new lenses and manual focusing!

Looks like you're enjoying the new camera toys! I love hoppers; wish there were more of them round here so I could photograph them.

Keep playing - these look good!
